What is a horse solarium?

December 1, 2025

A horse solarium is an installation with infrared lamps that is placed above the horse to gently and controlledly warm the body. The heat from infrared radiation penetrates deep into the muscles and connective tissue. This stimulates blood circulation and supports the natural recovery process, allowing horses to move more freely and reducing the risk of injuries.

Purpose and function

The warmth of a solarium contributes to:

  • relaxation of the muscles before and after training;

  • faster recovery after physical exertion or transport;

  • drying the coat after washing or riding;

  • improved blood circulation and metabolism.

A properly adjusted solarium distributes the heat evenly over the back and shoulders, without the risk of overheating or cold spots.

Structure of a solarium

A professional Q-Line horse solarium consists of several carefully coordinated components:

  • a robust housing with infrared lamps, often supplemented with UV or LED lighting;

  • an adjustable suspension or lift, allowing the height to be adapted to the horse’s withers height;

  • ventilation or drying functions to remove moisture more quickly;

  • a control unit for setting time, intensity, and safety functions.

All Q-Line solariums are equipped with safety limiters and IP65-rated components, making them suitable for intensive and daily use in stable environments.

Infrared and UV light

Not every solarium works in the same way.

  • Infrared (IR) heats muscles and connective tissue deeply from within and supports recovery.

  • UV light stimulates the natural production of vitamin D and has an antibacterial effect.

  • LED technology offers energy-efficient solutions with a focused and controlled radiation angle.

A combination of infrared and UV light provides a good balance between warmth, recovery, and overall well-being.

Practical application

Horse solariums are widely used in:

  • sport stables and training facilities;

  • rehabilitation and physiotherapy centers;

  • wellness and recovery areas for horses.

Daily sessions of approximately 10 to 20 minutes are often sufficient to notice a positive effect on muscle recovery and circulation.

Innovation by Q-Line

Since 1999, Q-Line has been developing its own horse solariums, including the MaXuSS Thera, Mercurr, and Stallvärme FIR panels. By using energy-efficient infrared sources, safe lift systems, and low-maintenance materials, these solariums are known for their reliability and durable performance.
